You may or may not have heard, depending on what news you pay attention to and what circles you run in, that the legendary heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson is due to fight YouTuber and influencer Jake Paul.
Now, Mike Tyson has said that he is going to be using psychedelic therapy, more specifically, psilocybin from mushrooms. Psilocybin is known to promote rapid and lasting neuroplasticity, the ability of your brain to form and reform connections. There has been a wealth of studies on psilocybin’s ability to treat many mental health disorders, like depression and anxiety, as well as newer studies into the effectiveness of treating concussions. There is also no evidence of psychedelics being addictive, and therefore they have even been used in treating those with substance abuse disorders or nicotine and alcohol addictions.
In a recent interview about the fight with Jake Paul’s brother, Logan Paul, Tyson said:
“I have to take ’em when I train. I always train with my mushrooms. I train with mushrooms ‘cause I feel beautiful. It takes me to heaven, baby. If I’m not on mushrooms (for the fight) I’ll be on residue of mushrooms”
Although there are not many studies on taking psilocybin for athletic performance, seeing as it can help with anxiety and stress and promote better sleep, it has been claimed to help athletes train and perform.
The professional match between the two will stream in November on Netflix.
